Almond BeverageShelf Life, Storage, and Spoilage Guide
Pantry
Until printed date on package (unopened, shelf-stable)
Store unopened, shelf-stable cartons in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, refrigerate immediately.
Refrigerator
7-10 days (after opening)
Keep opened almond beverage tightly sealed in its original container or an airtight pitcher. Store on an interior shelf of the refrigerator, not in the door, where temperatures can fluctuate.
Freezer
Not recommended for quality, but safe indefinitely
While safe indefinitely from a food safety standpoint, freezing almond beverage is not recommended due to significant quality changes. It may separate and become grainy or watery upon thawing. If freezing, do so in an airtight container, leaving headspace for expansion. Thaw in the refrigerator and stir well before use.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off odor
- Curdled or lumpy texture
- Mold growth
- Unusual discoloration
- Bloated or bulging carton (for unopened, shelf-stable product)
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for food is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C), where bacteria can multiply rapidly.
Unopened, shelf-stable almond beverage can be stored at room temperature until opened. Once opened, it must be refrigerated to prevent bacterial growth. Never leave opened almond beverage out for extended periods.
Safe Handling
Always refrigerate almond beverage promptly after opening, regardless of whether it was originally shelf-stable or refrigerated.
Do not consume almond beverage if the carton is bulging, leaking, or damaged, as this can indicate spoilage.
Shake well before serving, especially after refrigeration, to ensure consistent texture.
