Store unripe apricots at room temperature until ripe. Once ripe, refrigerate immediately.

Refrigerator

3-5 days

Store ripe, unwashed apricots in a plastic bag in the crisper drawer. Wash just before eating.

Freezer

10-12 months

Wash, pit, and slice apricots. Pack in airtight freezer bags or containers. Can be frozen dry or in syrup.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Soft spots or mushy texture
  • Mold growth (fuzzy white, green, or black spots)
  • Discoloration (darkening or unusual spots)
  • Sour or fermented odor
  • Shriveled or dried-out appearance

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods should not be left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the temperature is above 90°F (32°C), food should not be left out for more than 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Apricots left in the danger zone for too long should be discarded to prevent foodborne illness.
