  • Sour odor
  • Slimy texture
  • Discoloration (greenish or grayish tint)
  • Mold growth

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-hour rule applies: Perishable foods, including bacon, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Refrigerate or freeze bacon promptly. Discard any bacon left in the danger zone for too long.

Expert Tips

Safe Handling

1

Cook bacon thoroughly until crisp. While there isn't a specific internal temperature for bacon, ensure it reaches a safe doneness.

2

Prevent cross-contamination by washing hands, cutting boards, utensils, and countertops with hot, soapy water after contact with raw bacon.

3

Never thaw bacon at room temperature. Thaw in the refrigerator, microwave, or under cold running water.
