Store ripe bananas in the refrigerator. The peel will turn black, but the fruit inside remains good.

Peel and slice or mash bananas before freezing in an airtight container or freezer bag for best quality.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Excessive browning or blackening of the peel (beyond normal ripening)

Room Temperature Safety

Whole, unpeeled bananas are safe at room temperature until ripe. Once peeled or cut, follow the 2-hour rule (1 hour above 90°F/32°C).
