Refrigerator

1-2 weeks

Store unwashed blueberries in their original container or a breathable container in the refrigerator. Wash gently just before eating.

Freezer

Wash and dry blueberries thoroughly. Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet to freeze, then transfer to freezer bags or airtight containers. Do not thaw before using in recipes.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Mold growth (fuzzy white or gray spots)
  • Soft, mushy texture
  • Sour or fermented odor
  • Significant discoloration or shriveling

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-hour rule applies: Perishable foods should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Blueberries should be refrigerated as soon as possible after purchase. If left at room temperature, they should be consumed or refrigerated within 2 hours to minimize bacterial growth.
