Refrigerator
1-2 days
Store raw bones in a sealed container or tightly wrapped to prevent leakage and cross-contamination with other foods. Place on the lowest shelf of the refrigerator.

Signs of Spoilage
- Off-odor (sour, putrid)
- Slimy or sticky texture
- Discoloration (greenish or grayish hues)
- Mold growth
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C). Raw bones should not remain in this temperature range.
Always refrigerate or freeze raw bones promptly after purchase or preparation. Never thaw raw bones on the counter at room temperature.
Safe Handling
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling raw bones.
Prevent cross-contamination by keeping raw bones and their juices away from ready-to-eat foods, fresh produce, and cooked foods.
Use separate cutting boards, plates, and utensils for raw bones.
Clean and sanitize all surfaces that come into contact with raw bones.
If making bone broth, ensure it reaches a rolling boil and is simmered for an adequate time to extract nutrients and ensure safety.
