Fresh borage should not be stored at room temperature for extended periods. For dried borage, store in a cool, dark place in an airtight container.
Refrigerator
3-5 days
Wrap fresh borage in a damp paper towel and place in a plastic bag or airtight container in the crisper drawer. Do not wash until ready to use.
Freezer
10-12 months
Wash and pat dry borage leaves. Chop or leave whole. Freeze in ice cube trays with water or oil, or flash freeze on a baking sheet and transfer to freezer bags.
Signs of Spoilage
- Wilting or limp leaves
- Slimy or mushy texture
- Darkening or yellowing of leaves
- Off-odor or sour smell
- Visible mold growth
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)
Perishable foods, including fresh herbs, should not be left at room temperature for more than two hours. If the temperature is above 90°F (32°C), refrigerate or discard within one hour.
Safe Handling
Wash fresh borage thoroughly under cool running water before use.
Avoid cross-contamination by keeping fresh herbs separate from raw meats, poultry, and seafood.
Discard any borage that shows signs of spoilage.
