Pantry

Not Recommended

Unsafe

Raw bratwurst should not be stored at room temperature due to rapid bacterial growth.

Refrigerator

1-2 days

Store raw bratwurst in its original packaging or in a sealed container on the lowest shelf of the refrigerator to prevent juices from dripping onto other foods. Keep at 40°F (4°C) or below.

Freezer

1-2 months

For best quality, freeze raw bratwurst in airtight packaging or heavy-duty freezer bags to prevent freezer burn. Thaw in the refrigerator, never at room temperature.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Sour or off-odor
  • Slimy or sticky texture
  • Discoloration (e.g., grayish-brown or green spots)
  • Mold growth

Room Temperature Safety

Follow the 2-hour rule: Do not leave raw bratwurst at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), do not leave it out for more than 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for food is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C), where bacteria can multiply rapidly.

Refrigerate or freeze raw bratwurst promptly. Discard any raw bratwurst left in the danger zone for too long.
