Buffalo SauceShelf Life, Storage, and Spoilage Guide
Pantry
1 year (unopened)
Store unopened buffalo sauce in a cool, dark pantry. Once opened, it must be refrigerated.
Refrigerator
6-9 months (opened)
Keep opened buffalo sauce tightly sealed in the refrigerator at 40°F (4°C) or below.
Freezer
Not recommended for quality; safe indefinitely at 0°F (-18°C)
While safe indefinitely, freezing buffalo sauce is not recommended due to potential changes in texture and flavor upon thawing. If freezing, use airtight, freezer-safe containers or bags, leaving headspace.
Signs of Spoilage
- Off-odor (sour, yeasty, or unusual smell)
- Visible mold growth
- Significant discoloration or darkening
- Unusual separation or liquid pooling not typical for the product
- Fuzzy or slimy texture
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)
Do not leave buffalo sauce at room temperature (between 40°F and 140°F) for more than 2 hours. If the temperature is above 90°F (32°C), discard after 1 hour.
Safe Handling
Always use clean utensils to dispense sauce to prevent cross-contamination.
Ensure the lid is tightly sealed after each use to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
Discard any sauce that has been left at room temperature for too long.
