For best quality, freeze raw burger patties in their original packaging or wrapped tightly in heavy-duty foil or freezer wrap, or placed in freezer bags. Label with the date.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off odor
- Slimy or sticky texture
- Dull or grayish-brown discoloration
- Mold growth
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Always refrigerate or freeze raw burger patties promptly. Discard any patties left in the danger zone for too long.
Safe Handling
Cook all raw ground beef patties to an internal temperature of 160°F (71.1°C) as measured with a food thermometer.
Thaw frozen burger patties in the refrigerator, in cold water (changing water every 30 minutes), or in the microwave. Never thaw at room temperature.
Do not refreeze raw ground beef that has been thawed in cold water or the microwave unless it is cooked first.
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling raw meat.
Use separate cutting boards, plates, and utensils for raw and cooked meat to prevent cross-contamination.
