Pantry

1 week

Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Calamansi will dry out faster at room temperature.

Refrigerator

2-3 weeks

Store in a plastic bag or the crisper drawer of the refrigerator to maintain moisture and extend shelf life.

Freezer

3-4 months

Whole calamansi can be frozen. For best quality, wash and dry thoroughly, then place in a freezer-safe bag or container. Calamansi juice or zest can also be frozen in ice cube trays or airtight containers.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Soft spots or mushy texture
  • Discoloration (dark spots or dullness)
  • Mold growth (fuzzy white, green, or black spots)
  • Off-odor or fermented smell
  • Dry or shriveled skin

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods should not be left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

While calamansi can be stored at room temperature for a short period (up to 1 week), refrigeration is recommended to significantly extend its shelf life and maintain quality. Do not leave cut calamansi at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
