Store unopened cans in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. For best quality, consume by the 'Best By' date.

Refrigerator

3-4 days (opened)

Once opened, transfer unused canned beets to a clean, airtight, non-metallic container. Refrigerate promptly at 40°F (4°C) or below.

Freezer

2 months (opened, for quality)

For best quality, transfer opened canned beets to a freezer-safe container or bag. Freezing in the original can is not recommended.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Bulging, leaking, or severely dented cans (for unopened cans)
  • Foul or off-odor
  • Mold growth
  • Cloudy liquid or unusual discoloration
  • Foaming or bubbling

Room Temperature Safety

2-hour rule (1 hour above 90°F/32°C)

40°F–140°F

Perishable foods, including opened canned beets, should not be left at room temperature (between 40°F and 140°F) for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), discard after 1 hour.
