Not Recommended

Not recommended

Opened canned goods should not be stored at room temperature. Transfer contents to a clean, airtight container and refrigerate immediately.

Refrigerator

5-7 days

Transfer contents from the opened can to a clean, airtight glass or plastic container. Do not store in the original opened can.

Freezer

1-2 months (for best quality)

Transfer contents to a freezer-safe, airtight container or heavy-duty freezer bag. Leave headspace for expansion. While safe indefinitely, quality may decline after 1-2 months.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Mold growth on the surface or within the fruit.
  • Off-odor, sour, or fermented smell.
  • Unusual discoloration or darkening.
  • Slimy or mushy texture.

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods should not be left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), food should not be left out for more than 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4.4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Opened canned blueberries, like other perishable foods, should be refrigerated promptly. Discard any product left in the danger zone for too long.

Expert Tips

Safe Handling

1

Always transfer opened canned goods to a clean, food-grade storage container before refrigerating or freezing.

2

Do not store food in opened metal cans, as tin and iron can leach into the food, affecting flavor and potentially safety.

3

Refrigerate promptly after opening to prevent bacterial growth.
