Pantry

2-5 years (unopened)

Store unopened cans in a cool, clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. For best quality, consume within 2-5 years, but they remain safe indefinitely if the can is in good condition.

Refrigerator

3-4 days (opened)

Once opened, transfer unused canned carrots to a clean, airtight container before refrigerating. Do not store in the opened can.

Freezer

2 months (opened)

For best quality, transfer opened canned carrots to a freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag. Label with the date and freeze.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Bulging, leaking, or severely dented cans (for unopened cans, indicates potential botulism)
  • Foul or off-odor when opened
  • Mold growth
  • Slimy texture
  • Unusual discoloration

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-Hour Rule: Perishable foods, including opened canned carrots, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Promptly refrigerate or freeze opened canned carrots to prevent bacterial growth if they have been at room temperature for less than the maximum safe time. Discard if left out too long.
