Transfer opened canned sweet potatoes to a clean, airtight container before refrigerating. Do not store in the opened can.
Freezer
10-12 months
For best quality, transfer cooked sweet potatoes from the can to a freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag. Label with the date.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off-odor
- Mold growth
- Discoloration
- Slimy texture
- Bulging or leaking can (for unopened cans, indicates spoilage)
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
After opening, any unused canned sweet potatoes must be refrigerated promptly or discarded if left in the danger zone for too long.
Safe Handling
Always transfer opened canned goods to a clean, food-grade storage container before refrigerating.
Do not use food from cans that are bulging, leaking, severely dented, or have rust near the seam.
If serving hot, reheat to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
