Signs of Spoilage
- Unopened can: Bulging, leaking, rusting, or deep dents on the can.
- Opened product: Sour or off-odor, slimy or sticky texture, mold growth, or unusual discoloration.
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C). Food should not remain in this temperature range for extended periods.
Always refrigerate opened canned dried beef promptly. Discard any opened product that has been left in the danger zone for longer than the recommended time limits.
Safe Handling
Always wash hands with soap and water before and after handling food.
Refrigerate opened canned dried beef within 2 hours of opening (1 hour if ambient temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
Prevent cross-contamination by keeping opened dried beef separate from raw meats and using clean utensils and surfaces.
Do not consume if the can is bulging, leaking, deeply dented, or rusted, as these are signs of potential spoilage or botulism.
