Store unopened cans in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Check for bulging, leaking, or rusted cans before opening.
Refrigerator
3-5 days (evaporated milk), 5-7 days (sweetened condensed milk)
Once opened, transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate promptly. Do not store in the original can.
Freezer
Not recommended for quality, but safe indefinitely
While safe indefinitely, freezing is not recommended for quality as it may cause separation or a grainy texture. If freezing, transfer to a freezer-safe container, leaving headspace.
Signs of Spoilage
- Bulging, leaking, or rusted cans (for unopened product)
- Sour or off-odor
- Mold growth
- Unusual discoloration
- Thickened, lumpy, or separated texture
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F
After opening, do not leave canned liquid milk at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), discard after 1 hour.
Safe Handling
Always check the can for damage (bulging, leaking, rust) before opening. Discard if damaged.
Refrigerate promptly after opening and transfer to an airtight container.
Do not consume if the product shows signs of spoilage, even if within the recommended storage time.
