Not Recommended

Not recommended

Refrigeration is required for safety and quality. Do not store at room temperature for extended periods.

Refrigerator

3-4 weeks (opened package)

Keep tightly wrapped in its original packaging or in airtight plastic wrap/foil to prevent drying out and absorption of odors. Store in the coldest part of the refrigerator.

Freezer

6-9 months

While safe to freeze, freezing may alter the texture of cheddar cheese, making it more crumbly. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and then in heavy-duty aluminum foil or place in a freezer bag.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Visible mold (other than intentional molds on certain cheeses)
  • Sour or off odor
  • Slimy or sticky texture
  • Significant discoloration

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods, including cheese, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Promptly refrigerate cheddar cheese slices after purchase and after each use to maintain safety and quality. Discard any cheese left in the danger zone beyond the recommended time limits.

Expert Tips

Safe Handling

1

Always wash hands with soap and water before and after handling food.

2

Avoid cross-contamination by keeping cheese separate from raw meats, poultry, and seafood.

3

If cheese develops mold, cut off at least 1 inch around and below the mold spot for hard cheeses like cheddar. Discard soft cheeses with mold.

4

Do not consume cheese that has been left at room temperature for too long.
