Prepared cheese fondue is a perishable food and should not be stored at room temperature.
Refrigerator
3-4 days
Store promptly in a shallow, airtight container. Reheat thoroughly to 165°F (74°C).
Freezer
2-3 months
Freeze in an airtight, freezer-safe container. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating. Note that the texture may change upon thawing and reheating.
Signs of Spoilage
- Off-odor (sour or unpleasant smell)
- Visible mold growth
- Discoloration
- Slimy or sticky texture
- Separation or unusual consistency
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)
Perishable foods, including cheese fondue, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour. Discard any fondue left out longer than these times.
Safe Handling
Always keep fondue hot (above 140°F/60°C) during serving to prevent bacterial growth.
Do not leave fondue at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if above 90°F/32°C).
Reheat leftover fondue thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
Use clean utensils for serving to prevent cross-contamination.
Discard any fondue that has been left in the danger zone for too long.
