Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
After opening, chickpeas should be refrigerated promptly. Discard any chickpeas left in the danger zone for longer than the recommended time limits.
Safe Handling
Always transfer opened canned goods to a separate clean, airtight container for refrigeration; never store in the original can.
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling food.
Avoid cross-contamination by using separate cutting boards and utensils for raw meats and produce, even though chickpeas are cooked.
If incorporating into a hot dish, ensure the dish reaches a safe internal temperature if other ingredients require it.
