Commercially canned and unopened chilli meat sauce can be stored in the pantry until the 'Best By' date, typically 1 year. Once opened, it must be refrigerated promptly.
Refrigerator
3-4 days
Store in shallow, airtight containers. Refrigerate promptly within 2 hours of cooking or opening.
Freezer
2-3 months for best quality; safe indefinitely
Freeze in airtight, freezer-safe containers or heavy-duty freezer bags. Label with the date. Thaw in the refrigerator, never at room temperature.

- Sour or off odors
- Mold growth
- Slimy or sticky texture
- Discoloration
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)
Perishable foods, including chilli meat sauce, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), food should not be left out for more than 1 hour before refrigeration or discarding.
Safe Handling
Reheat all leftovers, including chilli meat sauce, to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) using a food thermometer.
Do not leave chilli meat sauce at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
Prevent cross-contamination by using separate cutting boards and utensils for raw ingredients and cooked foods.
Always wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling food.
