Chinese cabbage is highly perishable at room temperature. For best quality and safety, refrigerate immediately.

Refrigerator

1 to 2 weeks

Store unwashed in a plastic bag or wrapped in a damp paper towel in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator.

Freezer

8 to 12 months

Blanch cut Chinese cabbage pieces for 2 minutes in boiling water, then cool rapidly in ice water. Drain well, pack into airtight containers or freezer bags, and freeze.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Wilting or limp leaves
  • Yellowing or browning discoloration of leaves
  • Soft or slimy texture
  • Mold growth
  • Off-odor

Room Temperature Safety

Follow the 2-hour rule: Perishable foods should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), food should not be left out for more than 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
