Pantry

1 week

Store whole, unpeeled clementines in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not wash until ready to eat.

Refrigerator

2-3 weeks

Store whole, unpeeled clementines in a mesh bag or the crisper drawer of the refrigerator to allow for air circulation.

Freezer

10-12 months

To freeze, peel clementines and separate into segments. Freeze segments in a single layer on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to an airtight freezer bag or container. Can also be frozen as juice or in syrup.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Soft spots or mushy texture
  • Mold growth (fuzzy white, green, or black spots)
  • Shriveled or dried-out skin
  • Off-odor or fermented smell

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-hour rule applies to cut or peeled clementines. Perishable foods should not be left out at room temperature (between 40°F and 140°F) for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Whole, uncut clementines can be stored at room temperature for about 1 week for optimal quality. Once cut or peeled, refrigerate promptly within 2 hours.

Expert Tips

Safe Handling

1

Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling fresh produce.

2

Wash whole clementines under running tap water before peeling or eating, even if you don't plan to eat the peel.

3

Avoid cross-contamination by keeping clementines separate from raw meat, poultry, and seafood.
