Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C). Cooked pinto beans should not remain in this temperature range for extended periods.
Always refrigerate or freeze cooked pinto beans promptly. If left out for too long, discard them even if they appear and smell fine, as harmful bacteria may not be detectable.
Safe Handling
Cool cooked pinto beans rapidly by dividing them into small portions and placing them in shallow containers before refrigerating.
Reheat cooked pinto beans to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
Do not leave cooked pinto beans at room temperature for more than 2 hours (or 1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
Always wash hands, utensils, and surfaces before and after handling food.
