Pantry
Not RecommendedUnsafe
Country gravy is a perishable food and should not be stored at room temperature for extended periods. Refrigerate promptly.

Freeze cooked country gravy in airtight freezer-safe containers or heavy-duty freezer bags. Leave headspace if freezing in rigid containers. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off odor
- Mold growth
- Unusual discoloration
- Slimy or sticky texture
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Promptly refrigerate or freeze country gravy to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. Discard any gravy left in the danger zone for too long.
Safe Handling
Reheat all leftover country gravy to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) using a food thermometer.
Do not leave country gravy at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
Divide large quantities of hot gravy into shallow containers to cool quickly before refrigerating or freezing.
Avoid cross-contamination by using clean utensils and containers.
