Unsafe

Country gravy is a perishable food and should not be stored at room temperature for extended periods. Refrigerate promptly.

Refrigerator

3-4 days

Store cooked country gravy in shallow, airtight containers to ensure rapid cooling and prevent bacterial growth. Place in the coldest part of the refrigerator.

Freezer

4-6 months

Freeze cooked country gravy in airtight freezer-safe containers or heavy-duty freezer bags. Leave headspace if freezing in rigid containers. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Sour or off odor
  • Mold growth
  • Unusual discoloration
  • Slimy or sticky texture

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods, including country gravy, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Promptly refrigerate or freeze country gravy to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. Discard any gravy left in the danger zone for too long.
