Fresh cranberries are highly perishable and should be refrigerated promptly. Extended room temperature storage is not safe.
Refrigerator
3-4 weeks
Store fresh cranberries unwashed in their original packaging or a breathable bag in the refrigerator's crisper drawer.
Freezer
Up to 1 year
Wash and dry cranberries thoroughly. Spread in a single layer on a baking sheet to freeze, then transfer to freezer-safe bags or containers. Do not thaw before using in recipes.
Signs of Spoilage
- Soft or mushy texture
- Mold growth (white or fuzzy spots)
- Shriveled appearance
- Off-odor
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Fresh cranberries should be refrigerated promptly after purchase. Do not leave them out on the counter for extended periods.
Safe Handling
Wash fresh cranberries under cool running water just before use.
Keep cranberries separate from raw meats, poultry, and seafood to prevent cross-contamination.
Discard any cranberries that show signs of spoilage.
