  • Mold growth
  • Shriveled appearance

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-hour rule applies: Do not leave crushed walnuts at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), do not leave out for more than 1 hour.

The danger zone for food is between 40°F (4.4°C) and 140°F (60°C), where bacteria can multiply rapidly. While nuts are low-risk for bacterial growth, quality degrades faster in this range.

For best quality and to prevent rancidity, store crushed walnuts in the refrigerator or freezer, especially after opening or if not consumed within a short period.
