Pantry

Not recommended for extended storage

For best quality and safety, refrigerate cucumbers. If stored at room temperature, use within 2-3 days.

Refrigerator

1 week

Store whole, unwashed cucumbers in a plastic bag or crisper drawer in the refrigerator. Do not wash until ready to use.

Freezer

Not Recommended

Not recommended for raw cucumbers due to quality loss

Raw cucumbers do not freeze well due to high water content, resulting in a mushy texture when thawed. If freezing, they are typically blanched and sliced, then used in cooked dishes.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Soft or mushy spots
  • Slimy texture
  • Mold growth (fuzzy white, black, or green spots)
  • Off-odor or sour smell
  • Significant discoloration (e.g., yellowing)

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-hour rule applies: Perishable foods should not be left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the temperature is above 90°F (32°C), food should not be left out for more than 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Cucumbers left in the danger zone for too long should be discarded to prevent foodborne illness.
