Not recommended

Cut apples are highly perishable and should be refrigerated immediately to maintain quality and safety.

Refrigerator

3-5 days

Store cut apples in an airtight container or sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator. To prevent browning, you can toss them with a small amount of lemon juice or a commercial fruit protector.

Freezer

8-12 months

To freeze cut apples, wash, peel, core, and slice them. Blanching or treating with ascorbic acid (vitamin C) solution can help prevent browning. Pack in airtight freezer bags or containers, removing as much air as possible.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Excessive browning or discoloration beyond initial oxidation
  • Mushy or slimy texture
  • Off-odor or sour smell
  • Visible mold growth

Room Temperature Safety

2-hour rule (1 hour if ambient temperature is above 90°F/32°C)

40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)

Perishable foods, including cut apples, should not be left at room temperature within the danger zone for more than 2 hours. Discard if left out longer than the recommended time.
