Fresh dill rapidly wilts and loses flavor at room temperature. Best to refrigerate immediately.

Refrigerator

7-10 days

Wrap fresh dill in a damp paper towel and place in a plastic bag, or place stems in a glass of water, cover loosely with a plastic bag, and refrigerate.

Freezer

10-12 months

Chop fresh dill and freeze in ice cube trays with water or oil, or freeze whole leaves in an airtight container for best quality.

  • Wilting or limp leaves
  • Yellowing or browning of leaves
  • Slimy texture
  • Mold growth
  • Off-odor

Room Temperature Safety

2-hour rule (1 hour above 90°F/32°C)

40°F–140°F

Fresh dill should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), discard after 1 hour.
