Fresh dill will wilt and lose flavor quickly at room temperature. For very short-term (less than 1 day), stems can be placed in water.

Refrigerator

7-10 days

Wrap fresh dill in a damp paper towel and place in a plastic bag, or place stems in a glass of water, cover loosely with a plastic bag, and refrigerate.

Freezer

10-12 months

Wash and pat dry, then chop and freeze in an airtight container or ice cube trays with water or oil.

  • Darkening or yellowing of leaves
  • Slimy texture
  • Mold growth
  • Sour or off odor

Room Temperature Safety

2-hour rule (1 hour above 90°F/32°C)

40°F–140°F

Fresh dill should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), it should not be left out for more than 1 hour.
