Pantry
6-12 months (for best quality)
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep original packaging tightly sealed or transfer to an airtight container.
Refrigerator
Not RecommendedNot recommended
Refrigeration is generally not necessary for dry mixes and can introduce moisture, leading to clumping or mold. If stored, ensure it is in an extremely airtight, moisture-proof container.
Freezer
Not RecommendedNot recommended
Freezing is generally not necessary for dry mixes and can introduce moisture. If stored, ensure it is in an extremely airtight, moisture-proof container to prevent freezer burn and moisture absorption.
Signs of Spoilage
- Presence of pests (e.g., weevils, beetles)
- Mold growth (indicates moisture contamination)
- Off-odor (stale, rancid, or sour smell)
- Significant discoloration
- Hard clumping that cannot be broken apart (indicates moisture absorption)
Room Temperature Safety
Not applicable to dry mix; the danger zone (40°F–140°F) applies to prepared perishable foods, such as cooked donuts.
Store dry mix in a cool, dry place. Once prepared, perishable donuts should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
Safe Handling
Keep dry mix away from moisture and humidity to prevent clumping and mold growth.
Ensure all utensils and containers used for measuring or storing the mix are clean and dry.
Once prepared, follow safe handling guidelines for perishable baked goods, including proper cooling and storage temperatures.
