Store whole, unripe dragon fruit at room temperature to ripen. Once ripe, consume or refrigerate.

Refrigerator

5-7 days (whole, ripe); 3-4 days (cut)

Store whole, ripe dragon fruit in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. Store cut dragon fruit in an airtight container.

Freezer

10-12 months

Peel and cut dragon fruit into chunks or slices. Freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer to an airtight freezer bag or container for best quality.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Soft spots or mushy texture
  • Mold growth
  • Sour or off odor
  • Significant discoloration (beyond natural ripening)

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods, including cut dragon fruit, should not be left at room temperature (between 40°F and 140°F) for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), refrigerate or discard within 1 hour.

Whole, uncut dragon fruit can be stored at room temperature until ripe. Once cut, it becomes a perishable food and must be refrigerated promptly to prevent bacterial growth.
