Fresh parsley will wilt and spoil quickly at room temperature. For best quality and safety, store in the refrigerator.

Refrigerator

7-10 days

Store fresh parsley in the refrigerator. For best results, wrap unwashed parsley in a damp paper towel and place it in a plastic bag, or stand it upright in a glass of water, covering loosely with a plastic bag, and change water daily.

Freezer

10-12 months

Wash and thoroughly dry parsley. Chop finely and freeze in ice cube trays with a small amount of water or olive oil, then transfer frozen cubes to a freezer-safe bag or container. Alternatively, freeze whole leaves on a baking sheet and then transfer to a freezer bag.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Wilting or limp leaves
  • Yellowing or browning of leaves
  • Slimy or mushy texture
  • Off-odor
  • Presence of mold

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods, including fresh herbs, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

To maintain safety and quality, fresh parsley should be refrigerated promptly after purchase and kept out of the danger zone.
