Pantry

Not Recommended

Not recommended

Store in the refrigerator immediately. Pantry storage is not recommended for fresh mushrooms due to rapid quality degradation and potential for spoilage.

Refrigerator

4-7 days

Store in original packaging or a paper bag in the refrigerator. Do not wash until ready to use to prevent premature spoilage.

Freezer

10-12 months (blanched)

For best quality, blanch mushrooms before freezing. Clean, trim, and blanch whole or sliced mushrooms for 1-2 minutes, then cool quickly in ice water, drain, and pack into freezer-safe containers or bags.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Slimy or sticky texture
  • Darkening or black spots
  • Strong, unpleasant odor
  • Visible mold growth
  • Dried out or shriveled appearance

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable food should not be left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), food should not be left out for more than 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Enoki mushrooms, like other fresh produce, should be refrigerated promptly. Do not leave at room temperature for extended periods to prevent bacterial growth and spoilage.
