Framboise SyrupShelf Life, Storage, and Spoilage Guide
Pantry
Not RecommendedNot recommended for opened syrup
Unopened commercial framboise syrup can be stored in a cool, dark pantry for up to 1 year. Once opened, refrigeration is recommended to prevent mold and maintain quality.
Refrigerator
6 months to 1 year
Store opened framboise syrup tightly sealed in the refrigerator. This helps prevent mold growth and maintains flavor and quality.
Freezer
Indefinitely
While safe indefinitely from a microbiological standpoint, quality may degrade after 6-12 months. Freeze in airtight containers, leaving headspace as liquids expand when frozen.
Signs of Spoilage
- Visible mold growth (often fuzzy spots on the surface)
- Off-odor (sour, fermented, or unusual smell)
- Unusual discoloration or cloudiness
- Changes in texture (e.g., sliminess, excessive thickening or thinning)
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for food is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C), where bacteria can multiply rapidly. While high sugar content in syrup inhibits bacterial growth, mold can still thrive.
Minimize the time framboise syrup is left out at room temperature, especially after opening. Promptly return it to the refrigerator after use.
Safe Handling
Always store opened syrup in the refrigerator to inhibit mold growth.
Use clean utensils to dispense syrup to avoid introducing contaminants.
Discard syrup if any signs of spoilage are present, even if within the recommended storage time.
