Pantry

Not Recommended

Not recommended for opened syrup

Unopened commercial framboise syrup can be stored in a cool, dark pantry for up to 1 year. Once opened, refrigeration is recommended to prevent mold and maintain quality.

Refrigerator

6 months to 1 year

Store opened framboise syrup tightly sealed in the refrigerator. This helps prevent mold growth and maintains flavor and quality.

Freezer

Indefinitely

While safe indefinitely from a microbiological standpoint, quality may degrade after 6-12 months. Freeze in airtight containers, leaving headspace as liquids expand when frozen.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Visible mold growth (often fuzzy spots on the surface)
  • Off-odor (sour, fermented, or unusual smell)
  • Unusual discoloration or cloudiness
  • Changes in texture (e.g., sliminess, excessive thickening or thinning)

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-hour rule applies: Perishable foods, including opened syrups that are not shelf-stable once opened, should not be left at room temperature (between 40°F and 140°F) for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for food is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C), where bacteria can multiply rapidly. While high sugar content in syrup inhibits bacterial growth, mold can still thrive.

Minimize the time framboise syrup is left out at room temperature, especially after opening. Promptly return it to the refrigerator after use.
