Fresh milk requires refrigeration at all times. Do not store at room temperature.
Refrigerator
7 days
Keep milk refrigerated at 40°F (4°C) or below. Store in the coldest part of the refrigerator, not in the door, and keep tightly sealed.
Freezer
3 months
Freeze milk in airtight containers, leaving about 1 inch of headspace as milk expands when frozen. Thaw in the refrigerator.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour odor
- Lumpy or curdled texture
- Discoloration (yellowish tint)
- Mold growth
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)
Perishable foods, including milk, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour before it should be discarded.
Safe Handling
Keep milk refrigerated at 40°F (4°C) or below.
Do not leave milk at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if above 90°F/32°C).
Discard milk if left unrefrigerated for too long.
Always check the 'sell-by' or 'use-by' date and consume within 7 days of opening, or by the date on the carton, whichever comes first.
