For best quality and safety, refrigerate fresh strawberries immediately. If left at room temperature, consume within a few hours.
Refrigerator
3-7 days
Do not wash until ready to eat to prevent mold. Store in their original container or a breathable container in the crisper drawer. Keep dry.
Freezer
8-12 months
Wash and hull strawberries. Pat dry thoroughly. Arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet to freeze until solid, then transfer to freezer-safe bags or containers. Remove as much air as possible.
Signs of Spoilage
- Visible mold growth
- Mushy or excessively soft texture
- Sour or fermented smell
- Significant discoloration
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F
Perishable foods, including fresh strawberries, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), they should not be left out for more than 1 hour.
Safe Handling
Wash fresh strawberries thoroughly under cool running water just before eating.
Remove any bruised, soft, or moldy berries immediately to prevent spoilage from spreading to others.
Avoid cross-contamination by keeping fresh produce separate from raw meats, poultry, and seafood.
