Cooked fried onions should not be stored at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the temperature is above 90°F (32°C), discard after 1 hour.
Refrigerator
3-4 days
Store cooked fried onions in shallow, airtight containers to ensure rapid cooling and prevent bacterial growth. Place in the coldest part of the refrigerator.
Freezer
10-12 months
Freeze cooked fried onions in airtight freezer bags or containers. For best quality, remove as much air as possible from bags. Label with the date.
Signs of Spoilage
- Off-odor (sour, rancid, or unpleasant smell)
- Slimy or sticky texture
- Visible mold growth
- Significant discoloration
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Always refrigerate or freeze cooked fried onions promptly to prevent bacteria from multiplying to dangerous levels. Discard any food left in the danger zone for too long.
