Milk should be refrigerated immediately after opening. Do not store opened milk at room temperature.
Refrigerator
7 days
Keep milk tightly sealed in its original container. Store on an inside shelf, not in the refrigerator door, where temperatures can fluctuate.
Freezer
3 months
Freeze milk in airtight containers, leaving about 1.5 inches of headspace as milk expands when frozen. Thaw in the refrigerator. Quality may be affected (separation) but it remains safe.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off odor
- Lumpy or curdled texture
- Discoloration (e.g., yellowish tint)
- Presence of mold
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F
Refrigerate perishable foods promptly. Do not leave milk out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), milk should not be left out for more than 1 hour.
Safe Handling
Keep milk refrigerated at 40°F (4°C) or below.
Do not leave milk at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
Discard milk if it has been left out too long.
Avoid drinking directly from the carton to prevent contamination.
