For best quality and safety, store fresh Gawar in the refrigerator. If left at room temperature, consume within 1-2 days.
Refrigerator
3-7 days
Store unwashed fresh Gawar in a plastic bag or airtight container in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator.
Freezer
10-12 months
For best quality, blanch Gawar before freezing. Wash, trim, cut into desired pieces, blanch in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then cool rapidly in ice water. Drain thoroughly, pack into freezer-safe bags or containers, removing as much air as possible.
Signs of Spoilage
- Slimy or soft texture
- Mold growth (fuzzy white, green, or black spots)
- Off-odor
- Significant discoloration (e.g., yellowing or browning)
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Fresh Gawar should be refrigerated promptly after purchase. Discard any Gawar left in the danger zone for longer than the recommended time limits.
Safe Handling
Wash fresh Gawar thoroughly under running water before preparing or eating.
Prevent cross-contamination by keeping fresh produce separate from raw meats, poultry, and seafood.
Do not wash Gawar until just before use to prevent premature spoilage.
