Grape TomatoesShelf Life, Storage, and Spoilage Guide
Pantry
2-3 days
Store whole, unwashed grape tomatoes at room temperature away from direct sunlight for best quality. Refrigerate if not consumed within 2-3 days to extend shelf life.
Refrigerator
1 week
Store unwashed grape tomatoes in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator. Wash just before use.
Freezer
8-12 months
Wash and dry grape tomatoes. Freeze whole on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to freezer bags or airtight containers. Note that texture will change significantly upon thawing, making them best for cooked dishes.
Signs of Spoilage
- Mold growth
- Soft, mushy spots or wrinkled skin
- Leaking liquid
- Off-odor (sour or fermented smell)
- Discoloration
Room Temperature Safety
40°F–140°F
Perishable foods, including cut tomatoes, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours (or 1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C). Whole, uncut grape tomatoes can be stored at room temperature for 2-3 days for best quality, but refrigerate for longer storage.
Safe Handling
Wash grape tomatoes thoroughly under running water before eating or preparing.
Avoid cross-contamination by using separate cutting boards and utensils for produce and raw meats.
Discard any tomatoes that show signs of spoilage.
