Not recommended for extended storage

Grapes are highly perishable and should be refrigerated immediately for best quality and safety. If left at room temperature, consume within 1-2 days.

Refrigerator

1-2 weeks

Store unwashed grapes in their original packaging or a perforated bag in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator. Wash just before eating.

Freezer

10-12 months

Wash and dry grapes thoroughly. Remove from stems. Spread in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until firm. Transfer to freezer bags or airtight containers. Do not thaw before eating for best texture.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Soft or mushy texture
  • Wrinkled skin
  • Brown or discolored spots
  • Mold growth (fuzzy white or green spots)
  • Sour or fermented odor

Room Temperature Safety

2-hour rule (1 hour above 90°F/32°C)

40°F–140°F

Perishable foods, including grapes, should not be left at room temperature (between 40°F and 140°F) for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), they should not be left out for more than 1 hour. Discard any grapes left out longer than these recommended times.

Expert Tips

Safe Handling

1

Always wash grapes thoroughly under cool running water just before eating to remove dirt, pesticides, and bacteria.

2

Do not wash grapes until ready to eat, as moisture can accelerate spoilage.

3

Prevent cross-contamination by keeping grapes separate from raw meats, poultry, and seafood.
