Grapes should be refrigerated to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage. Room temperature storage significantly shortens shelf life.
Refrigerator
1-2 weeks
Store unwashed grapes in their original packaging or a plastic bag in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator. Wash just before eating.
Freezer
10-12 months
Wash and dry grapes thoroughly. Remove from stems. Spread in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until firm. Transfer to freezer bags or airtight containers.
Signs of Spoilage
- Soft or mushy texture
- Wrinkled or shriveled skin
- Mold growth (white or fuzzy spots)
- Sour or fermented odor
- Discoloration (dark spots or dullness)
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Grapes should be refrigerated promptly after purchase. Do not leave them out at room temperature for extended periods, especially in warm environments, to prevent rapid spoilage and potential bacterial growth.
Safe Handling
Wash grapes thoroughly under cool running water just before eating or using.
Do not wash grapes until ready to consume, as moisture can accelerate spoilage.
Keep grapes separate from raw meats, poultry, and seafood to prevent cross-contamination.
