Pantry

1 year (unopened)

Store unopened cans/jars in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For best quality, consume by the 'Best By' date.

Refrigerator

Once opened, transfer heart of palm to a clean, airtight container (non-metallic) and refrigerate promptly. Do not store in the original can.

Freezer

Drain heart of palm well. Cut into desired pieces if large. Pack into airtight freezer bags or containers, leaving headspace. While safe indefinitely, quality is best within 10-12 months.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Off-odor (sour or unpleasant smell)
  • Slimy or mushy texture
  • Mold growth
  • Discoloration
  • Bulging, leaking, or severely dented cans (for unopened product - indicates potential botulism)

Room Temperature Safety

2-hour rule (1 hour if ambient temperature is above 90°F/32°C)

40°F–140°F (4°C–60°C)

Do not leave heart of palm (especially opened or prepared) at room temperature for more than 2 hours. Discard if left out longer than the recommended time.
