Heavy cream is a perishable dairy product and must be kept refrigerated at all times. Do not store at room temperature.
Refrigerator
1 week after opening, or until 'use-by' date if unopened
Store in its original container, tightly sealed. Keep at 40°F (4°C) or below. Do not return unused cream to the original container.
Freezer
1-2 months for best quality, safe indefinitely
Freeze in airtight containers, leaving headspace as cream expands. Thaw in the refrigerator. Note that freezing may alter texture, making it less suitable for whipping.
Signs of Spoilage
- Sour or off odor
- Visible mold
- Yellowish discoloration
- Thickened or lumpy texture
- Bitter taste
Room Temperature Safety
The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).
Promptly refrigerate heavy cream after purchase and use. Discard any cream left in the danger zone for longer than the recommended time.
Safe Handling
Keep heavy cream refrigerated at 40°F (4°C) or below.
Do not leave heavy cream at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F/32°C).
Use clean utensils when dispensing cream to prevent contamination.
Do not return unused cream to the original container after pouring.
