Unsafe

Heavy whipping cream must be refrigerated at all times to prevent rapid bacterial growth.

Refrigerator

1 week (after opening)

Store at 40°F (4°C) or below. Keep tightly sealed in its original container. For unopened cream, follow the 'Best By' or 'Use By' date on the package.

Freezer

While safe to freeze, the texture of heavy whipping cream may change (become grainy or separate) upon thawing, making it less suitable for whipping. Thaw in the refrigerator. Stir well before use.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Sour or off odor
  • Bitter taste
  • Thickened or lumpy consistency
  • Mold growth
  • Discoloration

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods, including heavy whipping cream, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

Promptly refrigerate heavy whipping cream after purchase and use. Discard any cream left in the danger zone for too long.
