Pantry

Not Recommended

Unsafe

Hot fudge, once opened, requires refrigeration. Do not store opened hot fudge at room temperature.

Refrigerator

6 months

Store opened hot fudge in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator. Use clean utensils to avoid cross-contamination.

Freezer

2-3 months

For best quality, freeze hot fudge in an airtight, freezer-safe container. While safe indefinitely, quality may decline after 2-3 months.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Mold growth on the surface
  • Off-odor or sour smell
  • Unusual discoloration
  • Changes in texture, such as becoming excessively thick or watery

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods, including opened hot fudge, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C). Hot fudge should not remain in this temperature range for extended periods.

After serving, promptly return any remaining hot fudge to the refrigerator. Discard any hot fudge left out beyond the 2-hour (or 1-hour) limit.
