Pantry

Unopened, shelf-stable: Follow 'Best By' date; Opened: Not recommended

Store unopened, shelf-stable juice in a cool, dark place. Once opened, all juice must be refrigerated promptly.

Refrigerator

Opened, pasteurized: 7-10 days; Unopened, pasteurized (refrigerated type): Follow 'Use By' date; Unpasteurized: 5-7 days

Always refrigerate juice promptly after opening. Store in a tightly sealed container to prevent absorption of odors and maintain freshness.

Freezer

8-12 months

Freeze juice in airtight containers, leaving headspace for expansion. Can be frozen in ice cube trays for smaller portions.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Sour or off-odor
  • Cloudy appearance (for clear juices)
  • Fermentation (bubbly appearance, alcoholic smell)
  • Mold growth
  • Swollen or bulging container (for unopened juice, indicates spoilage)

Room Temperature Safety

The 2-Hour Rule: Perishable foods, including opened juice, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for bacterial growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C).

To prevent bacterial growth, always refrigerate juice promptly after opening and avoid leaving it out. If juice has been in the danger zone for too long, discard it.
