Pantry

1 week

Store at cool room temperature, away from direct sunlight. For optimal quality, refrigeration is recommended after 1 week.

Refrigerator

3-4 weeks

Store in a plastic bag or the crisper drawer of the refrigerator to maintain moisture and extend shelf life.

Freezer

3-4 months

Whole limes can be frozen after washing and drying. Place in a freezer-safe bag. Zest and juice can also be frozen separately in airtight containers or ice cube trays.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Soft spots or mushy texture
  • Mold growth (white, green, or black fuzzy spots)
  • Significant discoloration or browning
  • Shriveled or dried-out skin
  • Off-odor

Room Temperature Safety

2-hour rule (1 hour above 90°F/32°C)

40°F–140°F

Perishable foods should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours; if the temperature is above 90°F (32°C), food should not be left out for more than 1 hour. While whole, uncut limes are less perishable than some other foods, prolonged exposure to the danger zone can still reduce quality and safety.
