Pantry

Several months (unopened)

Store unopened liquid margarine in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat. Once opened, it should be refrigerated.

Refrigerator

3-4 months (opened)

Keep opened liquid margarine tightly sealed in its original container in the refrigerator. Ensure it is not stored near strong-smelling foods.

Freezer

12 months

Liquid margarine can be frozen in its original container or an airtight, freezer-safe container. Freezing may alter texture slightly but it remains safe.

Signs of Spoilage

  • Off-odor, especially a rancid or sour smell
  • Significant discoloration or darkening
  • Mold growth (rare but possible if contaminated)
  • Unusual texture or separation not typical for the product

Room Temperature Safety

Perishable foods, including opened liquid margarine, should not be left at room temperature for more than 2 hours. If the ambient temperature is above 90°F (32°C), the limit is 1 hour.

The 'Danger Zone' for food is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C), where bacteria can multiply rapidly.

Always refrigerate liquid margarine promptly after opening and use. Discard any liquid margarine left in the danger zone for too long.
